We recently attended a conference for our work and heard an amazing keynote speech by Dr. Natalie Stavas. Dr. Stavas is a Harvard trained pediatrician who happened to be running the Boston marathon at the time of the terrorist attack. She was fortunately away from the bomb explosions in the finish line, and she made the choice that day to run towards the smoke and chaos to help, instead of following police instructions to run the other way.

The video below is another keynote speech she gave, discussing what spurred that choice, the nature of altruism and her life experiences.

We personally found it very inspiring – we thought we would share it with our fellow Rotarians.
